The lady in Red
Yesterday, I went to Cafe Coffee Day with my friends. This is different by the way. I had gone to Barista day before. So you can consider it the coffee week. At Cafe Coffee Day, I had the worst ever slush in my life. The colour of that thing clearly reminded me of Rin Supreme Powder. It looked exactly like Rin Supreme had been mixed with water and then frozen to ice. In short, it was effin’ disgusting. That’s when my mother called me and told me that someone had come to meet me. Some girl perhaps. Mother asked me to come home soon because this girl seemed really desperate to meet me. I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting any ladies, at least not today. But someone had come.
I kept roaming about with friends for some more time and then finally set about for home. As soon as I reached home, I wanted to see who this lady was. My friends too were excited about it since they’ve not really seen me with a girl earlier. I went into my room and there she was, sitting on my bed comfortably. She was wearing a brown overcoat and was asking me to come remove it. I moved forward slowly, not really knowing what to expect. Slowly and carefully, with my friends behind me, I removed her overcoat. She was wearing a sexy red skirt. And she was easily the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen in my life. I touched her and she gave me the vibes. She was eclectic. I poked her, and she opened her bright blue eyes and blinked at me. Then she gave a big wide smile and that’s when I lost track of things. I was in love..in love with the girl in red.
I was in love with my new Dell Inspiron 1525.
So yep, my Inspiron arrived without notice today. It wasn’t supposed to reach before the 12th of June but it made it’s way to my house today, when I was out with my friends and least expecting it. Sexy would be insuffecient to describe this machine. There’s just something oomph about her. Not only does she look pretty, she’s also pretty good when it comes to performance. She’s got an Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo T7250 2.0 Ghz processor, 3GB of RAM and 250 GB’s of hard drive. I’m not happy with what Dell did with my hard drive actually. 60GB is partitioned for Windows. 10GB for Dell PC Restore and 20 GB for BIOS which is weird. It’s the first time I’ve seen that happening. This means that I’m left with only 160GB of storable space for my data. But still, even that is more than enough. It’s got Windows Vista preinstalled and I’m trying to like it. I love the Creative Noise Isolation earbuds that I got with this machine. They’re even better than the ones I got with my iPod. The screen is fairly bright and fairly crispy with a 1440×900 resolution. Ah, enough about specs. They’re never ending. How about a photosession with my love?
Also at this point, I’ve got to say a couple of words about my dear old lady Toshiba Satellite. It’s given me a fair amount of trouble alright but it still has the best keyboard I’ve ever seen on a laptop. The one on this Inspiron isn’t even half as comfortable. That machine has served our family for a good 10 years. It’s been with me for 2 years and even though it had been terribly manhandled, it still outplayed almost all similarly configured machines. But well, it’s just too old to run the softwares if today. Having said that, I’m not gonna dispose it off or sell it. It will stay at the house and would serve as an internet machine for the parents. It’s still got that kind of power in it.
And now I’m gonna hit the ‘Publish’ button to make this the first post from the new computer. It can’t be any better. Well, it can actually, if Federer somehow manages to beat Rafael Nadal at the French Open final today.

Dell is pretty anyway.. Some people snub it in terms of design.. but I quite like them.. It’s simple.. .not like an iMac or even a Sony Vaio as far as design is concerned.. but it’s simple and aesthetic.. and of course, good on performance I hear..
I have to buy a laptop soon.. and Dell Inspiron is ‘on my radar’..

I looked at all the laptops in the class. My mum’s sister is a fan of Toshiba. My old computer was a Toshiba and I just love their keyboards. But the thing with them is that though they are sturdy and last longer, they also are a little on the expensive side of things. Qosmio I believe costs a fortune.

Support is an issue yes. I don’t think there are any support centers in my city. There’s one close to it though. There are a couple in Delhi. But you’ve got to sacrifice somewhere. This was where I did. Now I hope nothing blows up.
@Amyth: I think Dell is fairly good looking. I’m not a fan of Vaio’s. I don’t think they’re pretty. Mac is well, completely out of this world anyway. It’s in some other league as far as beauty and performance goes. Dell is good on performance, and on battery life.
Dell Inspiron is very buyable at it’s price. But if you’re into games and all, you’d better try the Dell XPS M1530. It costs around 10 k more for a similar configuration but has a better built, and a dedicated nVidia graphic card.

@Yottabyte: Yeah, the specs are the price are what made me go for this laptop. It does have it’s downsides but then you’ve got to deal with them. And I agree, red is hot. I was considering that white designer one with blue clouds on it but that was Microsatin finish. I’ve heard that it’s a fingerprint magnet. This one is a matte finish. No fingerprints what so ever. :D
I hate Rafael too. Everything about him annoys me. But well, can’t deny the fact that he’s won the third French Open in a row. He’s too good on clay. But whatever, he looks like a monkey, has a huge ass, and wears the most disgusting pair of shorts. People can say I’m biased. I say I don’t care. Nadal sucks. Federer is the best. Life does seem to be smoothening out mostly because I’ve decided to take matters in my own hand. It could’ve been miserable if I was still going on in engineering because I heard that the Punjab CET exam was tough too. The college is decided but there’s also the fact that I’m doing a mediocre course as compared to everyone around me. The consolation is that I like it and I may be able to perform at it.
The laptop is a welcome change. I still can’t believe it has actually happened. I told my parents one day and the next day, we had placed the order. The deal was irresistible. Guess how much I got this for?

@Matt: Your HP is red too? I didn’t know they make red ones too. I do know that they make patterned ones because that’s where Dell got the idea of the designs from.
About the BIOS thing, I’m not really sure why they’ve done that. If they have, it’s not really fair. Buying a 250 Gig drive and getting just about 160 Gig is sort of unreasonable. I’m okay with the space allocated to Windows because I ordered that myself. PC Restore is fine too but BIOS makes no sense what so ever. Customer Care isn’t working either.

Yes, Red looks good on smooth surfaces. I’m glad it’s a matte-ish dull. If it were bright, it could have looked funny. But if it was bright, it had to have the microsatin finish and I always knew that’d be a bad option. Already the silver on the inside is going to need a fair amount of cleaning. I didn’t wanna include the outside too. It’s impossible to remove fingerprints. All you can use is a wet cloth which leaves it’s own patterns. It’s really annoying, happens on the phone and the iPod screen often.
@Soham: Thank you! And yes, getting rid of the USB ports is a major relief. I still use a USB mouse though. Might get a wireless one someday.

She’s not really been on my lap. She’s been on the table because that’s the only place where it can get the internet. The LAN cable is rather small, doesn’t go beyond the table and I can’t survive without the internet.
@Rahul: I’m getting used to Vista. It’s good but the alerts are a little annoying. You know the way it gives alerts whenever you’re trying to install something. I don’t really fancy that. Otherwise it seems good enough.
Aww yeah, 17 inch screen spoiled everything. Actually, I knew this might happen because people tend to skim read through posts and if anyone did that, they would know that it’s about the laptop. But you’ve got to take the chances.

@NightWriter: I’m glad you like the red. I’m fairly happy with Dell and I’d say a Dell is better than an HP. It depends on the kind of configuration you want actually. If sturdy and high end graphics are your thing, HP might be better. But if you’re looking for something that’s good, light and doesn’t burn too big a hole in your pocket, go for Dell.

I think your course is very good and you shouldn’t worry about the latest “trend”. It’s much more important to be happy with what you are doing. No point doing Engineering and failing! Better to do something where you will make an A. ;) And you totally deserve the laptop after your board results- did so well in English and Comp Sc. :)
I really love the red color bachche. The new 3G iPhone will be released next month and I’m thinking of getting the 8GB model for $199. Feeling really desperate. But the thing is, my service provider is T-Mobile and my contract expires only in Oct. :( And iPhone’s only available with At&T here. I can get an unlocked one, but don’t want to take chances, because many times, there are security updates and the phone becomes useless.

I knew you’d like the red colour. You liked my shoes too. And I heard about the iPhone. It’s not as expensive as I thought it would be. I would’ve bought it but the problem was that there’s no way you can use it here except unlocking it. And unlocking means you can’t have anymore software updates and even visiting the Apple website can install something on your phone that could cripple it and make it unusable. Apple is clever that way, you wouldn’t find pirated Mac’s as we find pirated Windows. I’m happy with my current phone, and even if I wasn’t, I would’ve stayed quiet because parents ko itna bhi force nahi karna chahiye. At least 3-4 mahine lagenge unko 40,000 ke shock mein se nikalne ko.

@Arvind: That’s the catch. It doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card. Only an internal Intel Chipset X3100. But since I don’t play games, it shouldn’t be a bother. It is able to run Windows Vista with all it’s decorations. Problems might arise when the entire computer world decides to switch to 3-D stuff.

The phone screen, the computer screen, the camera screen. And not only the cloth, if you try using a paper napkin, that leaves little bits of paper all over.
Jeez.
Along with LCD, they should have invented a fingerprint-repelling device.

@Riddhima: Arre yaar most Punjabi’s ko pata hai. Punjabi’s bahut passionate hote hain. Shareef bhagwaan ka bhakt sardar dekha aur vote dene shuru. Aage peeche nahi sochte. I’m not saying he’s bad, I’m just saying ke he’s not bechaara or buddhu. Clever aadmi hai, his song selection is good. Usko pata hai ki usko kaunsa gaana suit karta hai kaunsa nahi. @Espera: Seriously. When they can make scratch resistant screens, they should also think about making them finger print repellent. I wonder how people use touchscreen devices. I would simply not use it because I don’t like fingerprints on my screen and am too lazy to clean them off!

@Riddhima: Nahi lol. Socha tha ek baari ke vote dun kyunki judges pe gussa aa raha tha. They were showing their dislike and criticizing him openly which I think is wrong. a red dell laptop with a great configuration. congrats! i love the colour red. It was quite a surprise seeing a guy buy a red coloured laptop specially when red is seen as a female colour. :)

I love the colour red too! And I don’t think it’s considered girly anymore. Or maybe it is, but I love it. And this isn’t bright red anyway. It’s a dull soothing red..closer to maroon.
