Ants in my Pants. Hmph.

Don’t you just hate them wall/table climbing food seeking ants? I do. They’ve completely taken over my computer table and I’ve been throwing them onto the floor ever since morning. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna take their revenge on me in the night. After all, I can’t really stop them from climbing my bed, can I? So there’s a bright chance that by the morning I’ll be sporting hundred something ant bites on my body. And that doesn’t sound exciting. Nope.

Anyway, the AIEEE exam was okay-ish. Most academies have solved the paper and have put the answer keys on their websites but I’m not gonna check them simply because I like surprises. I like living in fear. Okay, who am I kidding? I know all my answers would be wrong if I go around checking the keys so I don’t wanna do it just to let the pseudo-happy mood persist. Meanwhile, I’m wondering why there wasn’t even one good looking chick in the entire AIEEE giving lot. It’s Chandigarh for one, it’s supposed to be famous for hot chicks. I didn’t even see one. My room was particularly infested with boys - right from the very nerdy to the totally uninterested. So I had gone there with the following song in my mind - “Duniya haseeno ka mela, haseeno mein yeh dil akela” and ended up with the following version - “Duniya ladkon se bhara jhamela, jhamele mein yeh dil akela sadela pakela thakela jalela and all that.” One of the guys finished the paper in half an hour. That was even faster than me! I thought I’d finish mine in an hour but I did end up taking all the three hours. I was pleasantly surprised at that feat.

Also, I watched Tashan. Nidhi liked it. Amit didn’t. I haven’t decided yet. Saif was good. I really liked that step of his in the song “Dil Haara Re” Kareena was good only in the Bikini scene. In all the other scenes, she was looking like a shriveled up mango. And she’s far too classy to wear the kinda dresses she’s worn in the movie. I really liked one music note in the song “Challiya“. Rest of it I thought was crap. Akshay Kumar was okay. He’s funny and athletic agreed but he should seriously shave. Okay he’s playing a gangster but man still, please shave. His entire Ravana act was pretty cool though. And that scene where he proposes to Kareena. Anil Kapoor was bad. No other words, he was genuinely bad. Bad dialogues, pathetic english-hindi mash up. I didn’t understand half of his dialogues and his presence was very annoying. The story though wasn’t bad. At the end of the day, it doesn’t live up to all the hype it created. And I don’t think it deserves to have Rs. 120 spent on it. Watch it if you don’t have anything better to do and if you can get the tickets in anything less than Rs. 75.

Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan called me up the other day and asked me the same thing he’s been asking everybody on every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yep, you guessed it right. He asked me, “Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass se Tez Hain?

My reply was, “Nope. Not exactly. But I’m the fastest at doing tags. Does that count eh? And hey, I’ve got proof cause it’s not me who’s saying it. It’s Neha who’s saying that and with that, she’s tagged me to do this thing.”

Shah Rukh’s reply was, “Yea right. I hardly care right now dude. My team is getting it’s ass kicked by the Mumbai Indians. I guess banning Harbhajan was what they needed. It’s 97 for 7 right now. Damn, I’m doomed. I guess it’s the Ashish curse :| “.

To that, my reply was, ” True that, your team is having bad days. Two losses in a row and then McCullum and Ponting gone. Maybe you should give up IPL and start reading my blog full time. And yep, you can also cheer for me if you want. But please, Karan Johar is not allowed. Gedit? “

Aiight, enough baseless rambling. I should just get on with the tag:-

1. Last movie you saw in a theater?

3. Favorite board game?
Snakes and Ladders. Yep, I’m not your bright Scrabble/Chess playing kid.

4. Favorite magazine?
Iono. I don’t read many. Stardust maybe. I love their Cat’s Crown thingy. ‘From one Cat to the other, Meeow till next month’. :D

5. Favorite smells?
Too many actually. You know I’m a Dog right? I smell way too many things and have way too small a brain to remember my favorites out of them all.

6. Favorite sounds?
Umm hmm, maybe the sound of Billie Joe Armstrong shouting his lungs out?

7. Worst feeling in the world?
Being a failure. Oh yea, that feels pretty bad.

8. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up?
Darn, another day. Bekaar. Bakwaas. Thu.

9. Favorite fast food place?
KFC for the win! :D

10. Future child’s name?
If it’s a boy, I’ma name him Jung Fateh. And if it’s a girl, I’ma name her Mariam. But of course, nobody’s gonna let me name them that.

11. Finish this statement. “If I had lot of money I’d….?
buy an IPL team. That’s the most in thing these days ain’t it?

12. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal?
Nay.

13. Storms - cool or scary?
Cool, very cool.

14. Favorite drink?
Coke. You don’t need to ask “favorite candy” now. You know it’s Mentos.

15. Finish this statement, “If I had the time I would….”?
learn to play the Guitar.

16. Do you eat the stems on broccoli?
Broccoli? What? Is that green? I don’t eat green vegetables.

17. If you could dye your hair any color, what would be your choice?

I’ve lived in just one city all my life. And since almost everybody knows it, I’m not gonna mention it here.

20. One nice thing about the person who sent this to you?
She thought I was gonna be the first one to do this. That’s nice.

21. What’s under your bed?
Right now, ants. Lots of them waiting for the lights to be turned off so that they can creep up and bite me. They don’t know I’ve drunk poison. Heh. :D

22. Would you like to be born as yourself again?
I don’t know really. But yea, I probably wouldn’t mind.

23. Morning person, or night owl?
These days I’m none. I’ve never been a morning person. Have been a night owl but now I’m none. I dunno why I’m always tired these days without even doing anything.

24. Over easy, or sunny side up?
I don’t like the sun. So over easy.

25. Favorite place to relax?
In my [imaginary] girlfriend’s [imaginary] arms. Heh, it doesn’t get cheesier than that. :D

26. Favorite pie?
My favorite pie..umm..oh yea it’s JJ Thompson’s Apple pie model of an atom! :D

27. Favorite ice cream flavor?
Vanilla. Yep, I’m simple like that.

28. Of all the people you tagged this to, who’s most likely to respond first?
I’m not tagging anyone because everyone’s been tagged already. So whoever does this the first, gets to have his/her name here.

***

P.S. - I wrote this post yesterday but wasn’t able to publish it. The Kolkata Knight Riders did end up losing and the Mumbai Indians won their first match. Maybe Bhajji was the kaala in the daal? What do you think?

Ant-attack in my room too. My mother insists on putting “haldi” in the corners. I said I’d rather live with the ants. Pffft. Anyway, during the past week, I must have committed a full-fledged Ant Holocaust. Who knows, they might have already left my bed and made their Ant-Israel somewhere? I hope they haven’t killed innocent Ant-Palestinians though. Okay, must stop rambling. =P

Anyway, so, as far as Tashan is concerned, I have read pathetic reviews everywhere. I wanted to go for it but that was also mainly to check out that ‘Dil Dance Maare’ song. Now, I think I’ll watch it on YouTube. “Tohre dil ka theatre maa, dil deewana booooking advance maare”. ROFL!! I wanna know the lyricist.

And Chandigarh girls are all pseudo-hots with fake attitudes. It’s city full of wannabes. So, stop pinning your hopes on a hicktown like this. Move to some good city…like say, Bombay or B’lore or something. At least, you’ll find good, intelligent, interesting people from the opposite sex.

And JUNGFATEH? Hahahahahahaha! I hope your wife does let you name him that! It’d be too cool! =D

BTW, ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’ is awesome but it’s still a bit predictable and melodramatic. Pick The Kite Runner next. It’s one of the most beautiful books ever written. And watch the movie too afterwards. Lovely adaptation.

PS: The song is, “Duniya haseeno ka mela, MELE mein yeh dil akela”. Bobby Deol with his blue goggles and long curls and all. Hahahahahaha!

If they are black ants, then just sprinkle some sugar over them and they will go away. It really works! If they are those annoying red ants then spary some anti-rodent. It will work but bear the smell.
I was really disappointed with the reviews of Tashan coz I had thought it would be a good movie since Saif and Akshay are in it. With Akshay Kumar, all his movies are hit these days. But I think I will still watch it and then curse it perhaps.

@Drenched: Heh, at least your mother suggested Haldi. At least she meant good. My mom decided to go with the ants. When I told her that the ants were gonna bite me, her reply was that “Let them do it..serves you right for not studying in your 11th and 12th doesn’t it?”. I was speechless. But yea, I’ve killed a lot of ants since yesterday too. I’ve been foot stomping/break dancing all over the place.

LOL, that dance maare song is really lame in a funny way. But Kareena with the blonde wig is as horrible as it gets. And I’ve got news for you. The song has been written by the music directors Vishal and Shekhar themselves. They’ve been bragging about it all over the place. Trust me for any kinda Bollywood news..after all, Stardust isn’t my favorite magazine for nothing. =P

I get your idea of the Chandigarh girls. But I wouldn’t have minded the fake attitude then. I wasn’t gonna talk to them anyway. All I wanted was a reasonably hot/well dressed chick. And all I got were either aunties in suits or dudes in super low waist jeans. If that’s the kinda students that go into AIEEE colleges, I’m happy I didn’t do wonders in the exam. =D

And I would really wanna name my son JungFateh just so I can ask him after every exam - “Jung Fateh hui ki nahi?”. :P But yea, my wife wouldn’t agree to that. Not everyone’s as sadistic as I am. But Mariam is a nice name.

I’ve read the Kite Runner btw. And I’ve seen the movie too. And it was excellent. Everytime the line “For you, a thousand times over” comes, I start weeping. That book is precisely the reason why A Thousand Splendid Suns seems predictable and a little repetitive.

Oh yeah, I remember the song now! Bobby Deol has always been funny. The entire Deol family has always been funny actually. I’m still hoping we get to see Dharmendra and Sunny doing a dance number together. Seeing two old rusted machines ‘clang clang-ing’ would be fun. =P

@Maddie: Sugar kills ants?! I thought they always run after sugar and that salt kills them. That’s weird. They are the black ants, and I’ve managed to get rid of them for the time being but I think the floor will need to be cleaned with DDT or something now. I can’t really figure where they’re coming from.

I thought Tashan would be a great movie too and that’s why I pretty much ignored the reviews and watched it. But I can’t deny that it was bad. The storyline was okay-ish but still the movie was too loud, the humor too desperate and the songs way too long. Akshay Kumar wasn’t bad in the movie actually. It’s Anil Kapoor who destroyed the movie as far as I’m concerned.

Black ants wont bite they will just give you this ticklish feeling. Sugar wont kill them. If you sprinkle sugar, they just go away. I had done a couple of times when they were on a wall near my bed. Next time, don’t kill them, just put some sugar. Though I reallu hope, there isn’t a next time :-D

Have you seen the movie, “ants in the pants” real good.

When I started reading this post, there were 0 comments now you have 3-4 etc., I thought I would come first, may be next time.

Also, Once I had applied a medicine to my foot’s thumb on some injury and I was sitting when I was bit by an ant and as I looked at the floor I saw an entire convoy of ants coming and roaming around/on my thumb, surprising isn’t it.

May be that anti-fungal medicine was ant and fungal or something.

    Aah.
I read both books by Khaled Hosseini and even though they’re damn awesome, they do have similar storylines. 2 best-friend-boys and 2 best-friend-girls.
But they are still amazing. Shit and when she finds out that Tahir is alive after all, it’s so coool. Wait, the name IS Tahir, right?

Green? Why dye your hair green? How about electric blue and dark purple streaks? I’d love that. I’m going to get that done as soon as blue and green coloured dyes of a good company are available.
Basic black hair and electric blue and dark purple streaks. Awesome!

You should totally try TGIF if you are still pretty enamoured by KFC. Sure, it’s a better answer than McD, but once you try TGIF, KFC will fade.

And why Jung Fateh anyway? Mariam, I think you picked up from A Thousand Golden Suns. I think the name Verrona is awesome. It’s a city in Italy. I know naming kids after cities is kinda old, but the name is pretty cool. And it’s Italian.
I also like the names of Farah Khan’s kids - Anya, Diva and Czar.

  9. Posted April 30, 2008 at 2:46 pm | Permalink

Hehehehe this was sweet… and so nice to know you reading that book as well…

so, what do you think of it?

I am about half done and I seriously think its way too depressing. I have half a mind to just leave it… :(

  10. Posted April 30, 2008 at 3:49 pm | Permalink

Are you enjoying Thousand Splendid Suns?

No point asking about exam, answer is up there. :)

  11. Posted April 30, 2008 at 4:19 pm | Permalink

tashan… i didnt hate it, but there was very little that was great or different about it. i should say the camerawork is godawesome. really brilliant shots of the landscape and all… like the one where there’s this caravan of camels passing across the screen.. and another on the covered boat in rajasthan.. the first shot of people on the banks of the ganga…. i can simply go on and on.

  12. Posted April 30, 2008 at 5:35 pm | Permalink

Tell Shah Rukh that theres a position open for Imperial Jester. :P

This memes been doing the rounds. Just did it for Ruhii.

  13. Posted April 30, 2008 at 5:40 pm | Permalink

yep, ants hate them. you’re never gonna see close-ups of ants on my blog. and liek srenched said, try haldi. i also read this totally amazing advice which said leave cornflour floor for them. the ants will eat it like crazy, and then die….of indigestion. lol. we’ve gotten rid of all the red ants in our house by washing each of the rooms twice.

LOL@ your thakela song. very lol.

bebo looked bad to you? iono, she looked great, she actually managed to dance.
lol, have you catually seen the paanchvi pass show? it sounds so lame, i have way too much dignity to go watch it.

if you like the suns book, tell me. i’m still to start on hosseini.
saap-sidi? lol. been ages since i heard of it.
    hey, i like KFC too!
Jung Fateh–that means ‘win a war’?? Mariam is sweet, very vintagy.
coke and mentos. those two brands are very soon gonna suffer a major blow to their sales. overkill.
brocolli is green, and i dunno why people dont like it.
green was the most outrageuos colour you could think of? how about pink? wait, you can’t technically color your hair can you? maybe your beard? :/
glad to see tennis ranked first. :)
    imaginary girlfriend. no comments.
I really liked jj thompson’s atom model. shows how great minds can be interested in food, too.

@espera–farah really named her kids that? diva and czar? anya…she really like russian does she?

Now what kind of a name is Jung Fateh?? From where do you get these ideas??
And this Kolkota team is not doing great. Are you thinking what I am thinking???
Aur phir finally Tashan dekh hi li?? Waise hum sabne itni burai kar di thi ke thodi acchi to lagni hi thi. :P
Aur about ants, you won’t believe it but yesterday I was having the same problem. Suddenly there was an army of ants in my room. And my roomies are so lazy that they don’t care. They would even sleep on the ants if that means not getting up from the bed. So I got a broom and swept all the ants off their feet. :)
    Use Laxman Rekha, it works.

  16. Posted April 30, 2008 at 11:42 pm | Permalink

How did you manage to get ants on your computer desk and under your bed? Yuck. Seriously….I don’t know what guys do to turn their rooms into such junk yards. :)

Btw, what is this SRK calling you all about? Why invent such an elaborate lie? :P I saw the first two episodes on Youtube and really liked the show. :) That sardar kid is too cute. He reminds me of you. Hehe.

Waise Tashan’s got to be the worst movie I’ve ever watched in my entire life. I’m still recuperating from that attack. And Kareena looked ugly. She needs to eat something. And Akshay and Anil were pure boring. My head start aching so badly. And I didn’t enjoy that Ramayan scene…puhhhlllease! That was like the most L.S scene I’ve ever seen in the entire history of Bollywood, which it seems, has hit a new low. Anyone who’s enjoyed this movie needs to get his/her brain checked and desperately take a crash course in movies/sanity.

  17. Posted May 1, 2008 at 12:58 am | Permalink

AIEEE was so boring. I couldn’t spot one chick at my center either. And considering this is Delhi, that’s a pretty low score!

I ditched Tashan for “The Ex”. And it turned out to be (I hope) even worse. Went on for two hours but felt like a year.

And I went for the IPL match today!! And I screamed so much that I can’t speak for at least a week now! And my legs are aching! And my head is aching! And I bought a tiny Daredevils cap for 200 bucks! And I’m ecstatic! And the cheerleaders almost got eaten up by the public!

  18. Posted May 1, 2008 at 3:49 am | Permalink

@Maddie: Yeah? Black ants don’t bite? Maybe it was mosquitoes biting yesterday then. But yea, I’ll try sugar next time though even I genuinely hope there isn’t a next time. Oh wait, they do bite. I have a mark on my foot where I saw an ant a second ago. Or maybe it was there earlier too. Bah.

@Shaivi: I don’t think we have any machchar or cockroach bhagao sprays at home right now. But the situation is under control now. The ants seem to have accepted defeat. Or maybe it’s toofan ke pehle ki shanti.

And Tashan well..it wasn’t that bad but not deserving enough to be watched in a theater I would say. So yeah, skip it..they’ll probably show it on cable in some days anyway.

And you really think Jungfateh is a cool name? :P

@Anshul: You’re telling me that it took you more than an hour to read this post? I got the first comment an hour or so before your first comment. Or maybe you were reading something else meanwhile. I know my posts tend to get too long and boring.

I think ants get attracted to blood, wounds and all that shit. I think houseflies do that too, don’t they?

@Espera: Yep, the stories are similar and so is Afghanistan. I guess I’ve been having an Afghanistan overdose these days and that’s why it’s getting a little monotonous. Saw the movie Kite Runner first and watched a little bit of Babel now. They are kind of set in the same place.

It is Tahir. And I’m still reading the book but I think you gave away the climax. Tahir is still alive? I’m on the part where Mariam and Laila have just run away from home for Peshawar.

I’ve never really thought about dying my hair. I’ve never really thought about doing anything to my hair for obvious reasons. What I want is a haircut and then shabby semi-longish hair.Once I get to achieve that, I’ll think about other things. But it’s gonna be impossible. Everyone in my household is damn adamant. Dad is the only one who listens to me and sadly even he’s overly religious. Grandparents will not allow it anyway. And mom..well..she has to disagree with everything I say. That’s a rule. But yep, basic black with electric blue and purple streaks sounds pretty cool.

We don’t have TGIF in here..well not yet at least. Will try and check it out when I come to Delhi next. And as far as KFC is concerned..I don’t like most of the things in there. Same story with McDonalds. They killed whatever little liking I had for them by hiking the Chicken McGrill to Rs. 30.

Jungfateh was a joke between me and Drenched(2nd comment). Actually there’s this guy called Jungfateh in her school/college and we were joking about him the other day. I told her that she should ask him the following after an exam - “Aur bhai Jungu, jung fateh hui ya fail?” and she went LOL. So that’s from where I remembered it. And I wasn’t able to think of a boy name when I was answering that. I know now though, it’s Aryan. Aryan and Mariam would be just perfect. I’ve always liked the name Mariam, but yea, A Thousand Splendid Suns is what reminded me of it right now.

Verrona is a pretty cool name. So is Vittoria. There are many cool names around, it’s just that you need to think. Sad people still name their kids Rahul and Raj and stuff like that. I’d want my child’s name to be a little unique..but not downright silly.

Anya is a nice name. Diva is okay too. But Czar will have a bad time in Punjab because people will call him “Kajaar”. :P

@Nova: Yea, the book is a little depressing but don’t give it up. Having said that though, I don’t think it’s gonna get any better towards the end. The Kite Runner was pretty depressing too.

@wanderlust: Gee, you watched the movie too carefully. I never had the time to notice the camera angles and all..I’m a very lame person that way sadly. Thank God I’m not a critic or else I would have had to see the movie at least 10 times focusing on a different aspect everytime. Some scenes were good though, I must agree.

@Ashish: I’m sure you’ll be laughing wherever you’re sitting now. Finally, Mumbai decided to start winning and that too by beating Kolkata. Fucking brilliant, no?

@Nidhi: Yep, I was thinking about taking a picture of all those ants on my table but then decided against it. You can make lizards look pretty but I can’t do the same with them ants. And they decided to come back too. I guess they know there’s always something edible on the table now.

I thought Bebo looked bad, yep. I think she looked way hotter in Jab We Met. Bebo isn’t the kinda girl I would wanna see in the kinna dresses she’s worn in Tashan. It’s like she’s trying overly hard to look got. And isn’t managing that. And she’s always been able to dance..hasn’t she? And there were scenes where you could just see that all her muscles were gone and that her skin has shriveled up. And that sir, is so not cool. And over anything else, she left Shahid man. And after leaving him, she went for Saif. Its her own life agreed but seriously, that must’ve hurt. Saif looked nice in the movie, btw.

I watched one episode of that Paanchvi Pass show and it wasn’t bad. It’s based on an American show in any case..how can it be bad then? And SRK is an entertainer so you know it won’t be boring. Try it out if you’re sure about your Paanchvi skills. I was pretty depressed because I didn’t know anything.

I’m liking A Thousand Splendid Suns. Do try Hosseini, but start with The Kite Runner. That one’s better.

Been ages since I heard about Snakes & Ladders too. And I couldn’t even find my old board. Boohoo!

You like KFC too?! That’s great! Meanwhile I thought you were a vegetarian. And the only vegetarian thing they have in there is I guess Chana Snacker.

Jung Fateh means to win a war yes. It’s a joke basically. Check out reply given to Espera, you’ll get the idea. Mariam is a nice name, yep.

I was supposed to think of outrageous colours? I thought I was to tell a random colour and so I thought green. I can’t dye my hair yea. Not even my beard..I don’t wanna look like one of them weird rappers/wrestlers.

Tennis has always been a first priority when it comes to sports. It was football earlier but once Tennis took over, nothing ever challenged it.

I liked JJ’s model too. It was pretty simple. But then Mr. Bore Bohr had to come up with his nucleus and concentric circles.

@Amit: I didn’t think up Jung Fateh. Jung Fateh’s parents did. It’s a joke basically. Check out reply given to Espera, you’ll get the deal.

I don’t know what you are thinking but I’m just getting bored of IPL now. First thing is my parents don’t let me watch the matches and second thing is that I think it’s too much of cricket on TV nowadays. You’re thinking of supporting Chennai now? I wouldn’t. I’d either cheer for Kolkata or for Punjab. Kolkata because of you know who and Mohali because Preity Zinta looks really hot in that red jersey and jeans. :P

Tashan dekh li, yep. And since all of you said it was so bad, mereko aur bhi bekaar lagi. Agar pehle positive opinion lekar jaata toh shayad theek bhi lagti. But people were walking outta the hall..that has to mean it was bad.

I’ll try Laxman Rekha tomorrow. And be happy I’m not your room mate because I’m extremes of laziness. I run only for food or for my life. That’s it. :P

@Ruhi: I didn’t do much. There was this old chipps ka khaali packet lying around on my desk and the ants got attracted to that. I’ve thrown it now finally and the desk is cleaner than it’s been in ages. Funny how a small ant can change people.

I saw one episode of the Paanchvi Pass show and I think it’s nice. Sad I didn’t know any of the questions though. And that sardar kid..bleh. He’s not cute. Even if he is, he’s not like me. He’s big and burly..mera size toh abhi bhi uske jitna nahi hoga. And funny how sardar kids remind people of other sardar kids. When Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released, I had a lot of people telling me that the sardar kid in that movie reminded them of me. You remember him don’t you..the one who went “Tussi jaa rahe ho? Tussi naa jaao” in the end?

Tashan wasn’t that bad..matlab I’ve seen worse stuff. Kareena looked bad, I agree. But she’s eating now..I’ve heard. The news channels were announcing that. It was like - Breaking News: Saif ne kareena ko khaane ko kaha. Kareena ne aaloo khaya..ek poora aaloo! :|

The Ramayan scene was lame maybe..but I liked Akshay’s entrance..you know with the Ravan attire and coming on a scooter and all. And most people have hated Tashan..so you can rest happily that they have their brains intact.

@Sneezy Melon: What?! You didn’t even see one chick? And that too in Delhi?! Wow! I don’t consider myself unlucky now. But at least you did well at the exam. I sucked at that too.

And man, IPL match sounds awesome! I’ve been wanting to go to Mohali to catch the match between the Knight Riders and Kings XI but gave up on that plan later. Maybe I should watch it after all..for the cheerleaders if nothing else. And they were gonna get eaten up, I’m sure they knew that well.

Waah…these news channels have no work! Duh. Next they’ll air “Kareena’s bai didn’t come for work today”. :| Disgusting.

And you and your fascination for chips :P Seriously…and I do remember that KKHH sardar kid. He was quite cute ya. And I know that your size can’t be compared to that Paanchvi Paas’s kid’s size. :P You are not a sardar actually. Sardars are supposed to eat well–lassi and all. Go and eat and drink something! Hehe.

  20. Posted May 1, 2008 at 4:12 am | Permalink

@Ruhi: Yeah, the news channels are really berozgaar. And this was one okay-ish piece of news. They can do much worse when they start their “Aaj Tak ne kiya baba ka bhaanda phor” and stuff like that.

Can’t deny my fascination for chipps. Bachpan se kha raha hun. Ab toh aadat si hai mujhko aise jeene mein. :P

You’re right yaar. I’m not even a Sardar. Saare yahi kehte hain. I wonder why I’m so bekaar sometimes. And eat and drink waala kaam toh kara hai maine bhi kaafi, but vertically ki jagah horizontally expand hona shuru ho gaya and that’s the last thing I’ll want with my height. And I almost despise Lassi. :|

  21. Posted May 1, 2008 at 4:16 am | Permalink

you despise lassi?! I had the best lassi and parathas from those roadside dhabas on my way to Simla- Manali. Yummy! And so cheap, you know? I’m sure you know…silly question.

  22. Posted May 1, 2008 at 4:21 am | Permalink

@Ruhi: I don’t like the sweet lassi. The salty one is cool though. And no, I actually didn’t know about those Simla-Manali ke raste waala dhabas. I know dhabas are cheap though. I’m very ignorant about these things. My friends sometimes ask me what kind of a person I am..been living in this city for 18 years and I still don’t know where the best food is served.

@Riddhima: It’s okay yaar, haar jeet toh chalti rehti hai. Best of luck to your Mumbaikars. They will reach the semi’s Inshallah.

thankfully, i don’t have ants in my room. Thankfully, i’d never want to name a kid Jung Fateh. I mean, poor kid. One of my friends’ name is Mini. You can’t imagine the kind of jokes she has to stand…..

@Shaivi: Same me! I like unique names too. But the thing is that they shouldn’t be too illogical. Jungfateh is kind of like asking to be mocked at. Aryan is a nice name but it’s becoming too common. Iono, will think about it jab time aayegi. Abhi sir khapaane ka kya fayda. And you still haven’t told me your real name. Did you figure out my city btw?

@Prerna: LOL, I bet they will. Where did you hear that name?

@Ashish: And Kolkata lost again today. Khush toh bahut hoge tum, haiin?

@Poison: Obviously I wouldn’t name my kid that. It was just an inside joke. I couldn’t remember any name then.

Glad you liked the song. And thanks for visiting. :)

But that’s the thing isn’t it? If you want it real bad, you gotta fight against the odds. Even the odds are your parents. I suppose once you start living away from them, you’ll have cut your long tresses.
I daresay even my mom will be horrified if I came home one day with my hair blue and purple. Or maybe not.

Re: Poison’s comment, what makes it worse is that the girl called Mini is not exactly mini. She’s tall and stuff. And people are always like, “What’s her last name? Skirt?”

I agree. Every other girl on the streets is called Pooja, Sunita and Anita. And every other boy on the streets is called Raju or Rahul or Amit. The other more common names are Sakshi, Medha, Aditya and Abhishek.
    LoL about “kajaar” …

    I’m sorry I leaked the ending. =P
But read on, it sounds better when you read it.
And, have they seriously made Chicken McGrill 30? Jeeeeeez.
But you gotta try TGIF. A bit on the expensive side. Anything off the menu has the average price of Rs. 300, but it’s worth it. Yeah, even ordinary pizza.

@Amit: Sahi hai fir. Tumhaara agla roommate main. Tum saare kaal karna aur fir mereko lecture dena. Waise bhi lecture sunne ki toh aadat padh chuki hai isliye khaas farak nahi padega. As they say, ab to kaan par jun bhi nahi renkti. :P

@Espera: I’m ready to fight the odds yes. And I would have gotten them cut if it was just my parents because they might not talk to me but eventually they will. The thing is that the grandparents also live with us and they’re deeply religious people. Plus they’re old. Now if I take an extreme step like this, I dunno what’ll happen to them. You know things that can happen in old age and then I’ll be blamed. I don’t want that to happen. So I’ve decided to buffer it a little bit. One week or so after I leave the city, I’ll get the hair cut. Baaki baad mein dekha jayega.

And I know the jokes a slightly different name can bring. I’ve got a weird surname for one and I’m made the laughing stock in the town for that. But the thing is that the more you get irritated, the more people enjoy teasing you. And if you pretend you’re not getting irritated even if you are, it sometimes works. Of course what works better is that you twist their jokes and make fun of them. That way they have to shut up.

Rahul is a very common name. Though I love it but still, there’s nothing new in that. Similarly Aryan is a nice name but it’s also getting fairly common nowadays. Natasha is one common name that I really like. There’s this one girl called Sangya in our class and during the hindi classes when the teacher would ask “Bachchon, Sangya ki paribhasha batao”, everyone would go, “Maam, woh baithi hai second last bench par” . :D And I really like your name btw, very cool.

And it’s okay about the ending. It was a pretty cool book in the end. That’s the thing about Hosseini, everything gets okay in the end. But that part where we come to know that Rasheed had died, you really wanna hit him. So one can totally understand what Mariam did. Afghanistan really scares me btw, with the beard patrol and the public stoning and all. It’s too inhumane.

And yeah, Chicken McGrill is actually 30 now. When my friend bought it the other day, I couldn’t believe it and double checked it. It’s inflation they say, chicken mehenga ho gaya hai. And TGIF sounds vert Pizza Hut-ish, pricewise. But I’ll try it. Looks like me massi needs to give me a treat real soon. :P

@Balu: Really? OMG, I need to get bhagwaan Laxman to kill them ants fast.

@Shaivi: Oh forget it. The city is Ludhiana. Heard of it? And I know your name too now. Funny thing I never carefully noticed your e-mail ID earlier. :P

@ManofRoma: I should be blamed too. I never really commented on your blog. My bad, I’ll try to comment more from now on.

@Shaivi: Lol, yeah. Even I didn’t notice your e-mail ID clearly earlier. But I like your name, pretty cool and pretty uncommon too. Therefore more cool. And yea, guessing it was in Punjab was kinda easy wasn’t it? But nobody could’ve guessed the city..cause it’s not even that popular and all.

@Riddhima: Chee, Symonds aur Bravo kahaan hot hain yaar. Baaki sab toh reasonably good looking hain. Chalo fir aisa karte hain, we’ll have Dhoni and Brett Lee. Dhoni will be your India waala hero and Brett Lee will be your baahar waala hero. What say? :D

@Priya: If there were a Green Day concert, I would’ve sold myself and made sure that I attend it. It’d be a crime to me if I don’t. But that’s not gonna be anytime soon as far as I heard. Coldplay and Green Day don’t have any plans to come to India as of yet. I wanted to attend the Bryan Adams concert too actually but never got around to doing it.

And that’s the thing isn’t it. One does make trips for bands and stuff but I’ve never really visited the southern part of my country. I don’t have any clue what goes on in there. All I’ve seen is in movies and you can’t really trust them always. But maybe after college, kahin south mein naukri lag sakti hai. Or else maybe MBA karne ke liye aana pade. You never know.

And tell Billie I’m looking for his eye liner. But I’ll give it to him only if he gives me an autograph. Woh bhi bada waala. :P

Sangya? Shit man, poor girl. Why would anyone call her that anyway? I mean, why would her parents name her that?
There’s a boy in my brother’s class who’s called Aishwarya. It’s shit funny because you can’t help conjuring up blue eyes and long hair when you think of him.

There are quite a few things I’m saving up for doing when I live away too. Not the usual belly-piercing or tattooing. I mean, I might tattoo. But I’m sort of apprehensive about it. Not too much about the cost or pain, more about the rumours that untreated needles spread HIV.
And there are a lot of things I have done for my grandparents too. When my grandmother got sick of seeing me always in shorts, I wore a sari for her because she said she wanted to see me in one before she died and I got damn scared and did that. For 2 hours only, but nevertheless.

Where did you catch the movie BTW? I mean, when did it release, is it going to come in India or has it gone by etc.? My mama (that’s uncle, BTW) said he’d seen it and it had new actors and was pretty good. So I really really really want to see it now.
Strangely, while Hosseini’s books have turned you off Afghanistan, they make me really want to go to that place. In the Kite Runner, there’s a description of Bamiyan’s Buddha statues that the boy goes to see with his father. When you read of something like that, you can’t help feel sorry that you never got to witness something so beautiful. Even the kite flying contests.
Also, Afghan guys are damn goodlooking. So that’s another reason I’d want to go there. I mean, think Tahir.

Hey you’re tagged !! I’m prepared to read Green Day and Coldplay everywhere !!

” Think of THE song that most inspires you to write, whether it gives you an idea for a story, script or just puts you into a better frame of mind AND/OR peek into the lyrics and find a verse that sums up the theme of whatever project it is you’re working on.

If possible, post a video of the song to convey to readers the full context of the song and the mood it puts you into. Finally, send the assignment to five other writers to do as well. “

    Cheers :)

  64. Posted May 9, 2008 at 5:59 pm | Permalink

@Priya: The sidebar hasn’t gone down. It was supposed to go down. But I’ve changed back to the old theme anyway.

And I’m not changing themes cause I’m bored. I hardly have time. I’m changing them because I still can’t find the perfect theme and I hate this one now.

@ahul: Well no, not really. I don’t think the Cheerleaders are gonna get any air time in here

@Shaivi: Alright alright, kamaal kar diya kudiye! Happy now? :P

And I’ve changed the template obviously because everyone was hating that one.

@Espera: Iono why her parents would like to call her that. It isn’t that bad a name if I think about it. It’s just unlucky that it’s a noun maybe?

I’ve never really been a tattoo person, you know. Again, that’s not because of the pain. It’s just that the idea doesn’t appeal to me much. Or maybe it’s just that I haven’t really thought about it much. Maybe, one day.

I downloaded that movie. I don’t know if it released here but I don’t think it will now cause it’s reasonably old already. I can send you the torrent file if you wanna download. It’s pretty nice, as so many people have already told you.

Hosseini’s books haven’t turned me off Afghanistan. It’s just the things that happen in there that aren’t too exciting. They’ve talked about the Statues of Bamiyan in Splendid Suns too and yeah, it is sad that we’ll never get to see them. That’s one really bad thing that the Taliban did. But then, they have many other bad things to their credit.

Afghani women are hot too, think Laila. I wonder if they still wear burqa’s everywhere. I don’t think they do.

@Apoorv: Yea, I liked that theme too but it having the sidebar at the bottom was a problem. So had to revert back to this one. I’ll look for a new one as soon as I find the time because I’m not particularly fond of this one either.

@Sneezy: Heh, your smile is teh dazzling! It can convince anyone. :P

@Riddhima: Yea, Dhoni ke bhi din kharaab chal rahe hain. Tum kuch karo na uske liye, aur woh bhi jaldi.

@Anshul: It’s really funny isn’t it? When you can’t change themes, you crib because you can’t. And when you can, you crib because you can’t find the perfect theme!

    @Perx: I’m glad you’re back. :)

@Shayeri: Ladybugs pooping? Hmm, I haven’t really come across that. Do this tag, it’s fun.

@Nids: That pink thing is your automatic avatar which is generated using your email-id. It’s a new thing on WordPress. I think it’s better than having no avatar at all. Don’t you think?

@Priya: Haha, I read that post of yours yesterday and I was doing your tag too. It’s still saved as a draft in fact but then today I got a result and it’s all gone a little haywire and I can’t think straight. But don’t worry, I’ll do it soon. And yeah, the songs I’ve thought about..one is from Green Day and one from Coldplay. :P

Yeah, from how it sounds, Laila wasn’t as bad off as women are in Saudi Arabia and places.
And you’re right, Afghanistan is bad because of the Taliban and it makes you feel scared to go in there, but that’s maybe the reason I want to go there. To see all of it before the Taliban can do worse.
And sure, if you can send me the torrent file, I’d like it very much.

Sangya is a nice name as such, but don’t you suppose her parents would have also known that she would be made fun of in this way? And when you analyse it, they are, in the end, calling their daughter, ‘verb’. That’s why I asked why anyone would want to name someone that.
