My 5 favorite … toys!
So, the last post got a little too long. So this one is gonna be shorter, well, comparatively shorter anyway. I can’t make short posts or comments, that’s one thing I’m completely incapable of. But still, I thought the last post was nice, go read it if you have the kind of time. As far as this post is concerned, the idea came from the one and only inimitable Nidhi. She had made this post about certain Television related memories from her childhood. That reminded me of my He-Man days. There used to be a green coloured tiger who used to be very scared but would turn brave when Prince Adam would become He-Man. If you’re thinking the last line isn’t making any sense, go see He-Man first. Anyway, so I had a toy version of that tiger and it had been my favorite toy for quite a long time. I think I gave it to somebody when I was 14 or 15. Today, however, I somehow wanted to confirm that I had actually given it away. Hence, I searched my desk, which believe me is a big task in itself. I couldn’t find the tiger of course but I did find some other toys which rekindled old memories. I decided to take pictures of them and show them to the world, and also to myself when I grow up more and read my older posts. Here you go (and don’t you dare laugh) :-

My GI-Joe Skystriker Aircraft
This is one thing I really had to beg for. It was not available in my city so whenever we’d go to Chandigarh, I would start cribbing and begging in front of my parents to let me buy it. They always refused because they didn’t think it was worth it. It was really expensive too..some 450 bucks during those days. And I wasn’t one of those rich guys so I always had to prove myself worthy for getting a new toy. Ultimately, they did buy me one. And I played with it for 4 years. I cried like shit when one of it’s wheels broke because of a friend of mine who threw a cushion at it. I didn’t talk to that friend for a year and I made my mother scold him even though it was my fault. I had initiated the cushion fight after all. Anyway, THIS is how a normal good condition Skystriker should look. Mine, however is completely destroyed now with half the things broken and half of them missing. Here goes.

My Limousine
I got this one relatively easy. My parents must have been very happy that day. It’s a Lincoln which now has only 1 wheel remaining. The front doors open and the back doors also open. Here goes.

The McDonalds Polar Bear/Duck
This one was cheap, but again, I had to beg my parents to buy me a Happy Meal. Actually, we didn’t have a McDonalds in the city in those days. It was on the outskirts. So we went there. I had gone there precisely for the toy you get with a Happy Meal. It costs something around 50 bucks and the same burger costs 20 bucks. Hence, it’s a wastage of 30 bucks but you can’t tell that to a child who wants a toy. Finally, I bought it and I got it. :D

^^The Polar Bear (on top of the Informatics book)^^

^^The Polar bear becomes a duck!^^
***
My Titanic
I don’t remember buying this. I think I exchanged it with a friend of mine. I must have given him a lot of toys for this because I was really naive when I was young and everyone used to fool me. Anyway, I really love it so I don’t mind.

^^The Titanic, floats in water too. ^^
But since it’s one of my favorite toys, it must do something else too right? Yes, it does! It doubles up as a fighting robot! I was really into Transformers in those days. :D

^^Ship transforms into a Robo!^^
***
My 101 Dalmatians Pencil Sharpener
I forced my only cousin sister to give me this. Actually, she never said yes but I still took it. Evil kid, I was. *the smug look*. Anyway, so when you sharpen a pencil in it, one of the three dogs goes up and down and the other two rotate at their place. It’s really cool, I wish I could have shown you a video.

So then, did you like my toys? :D Or did you think this post was way too childish? :/
Also, if this post managed to awaken the child inside you, you are most welcome to take this as a tag and show off your childhood collections. I, for one, would be very happy to see.
what a cute post!!! It really did manage to awaken the child in me (not that she was fast asleep anyway, she was just playing hide and seek and took a break!)
I’m definitly gonna take this post up as a tag and do it!! love the limo, by the way..damn classy! ;)
nice post man, i remember how I used to nudge my parents to go to the outskirts of a nearby city(1hr 30mins journey) just so I could buy a happy meal…so that i could get the toy…
nice airplane by the way
Nice toys! I dont remember any of my toys. Some dolls. Mc Donald happy meal came when I was grown up. Btw I noticed your stats are close to 3 lakhs. Good job! Congratulations! :) Mere to poore ek sall mein 20k hue hain! :(
CUTE!
esp the mcd polar-bear-duck….
ok, my toys are mostly barbie’s but maybe someday i will put up pics….someday soon…
nice nice:)
i found this post really cute. i aminly grew up with dolls and kitchen sets.lol….. and one toy i still have is this disney coin bank…. lol…. i can never get rid of it. and oh, my bro used to go to sleep with his G.I.Joe toy men by his side…
see ya:)
lol my favs are the limo and the polar bear/duck. this post did awaken the child in me, but can’t do one of my own. once I hit a certain age my mom gave away my toys. :( still, I don’t think pics of barbies with their head torn off would make a nice post. I do however miss the power rangers action figures and the mechanical toy dog.
i like the titanic, that’s cool. i thought it’s kinda strange you like the 101 dalmatians sharpener ‘cos it’s quite girly despite the puppies moving while you sharpen trick. :P it does sound cute though.
what about your 5 favourite big boy toys?
heyyyyy
shmit this is first tym
wow. this reminds me of my collection of GI joe, hotwheels and an MRF Jeep.
sadly my much younger cousin picked it up while he was on holiday at my place. :) that was years ago. But I miss my MRF jeep now. :)
@Lemonade: Nice, I’d like to see your collection too. And I know the girl inside you is awake. She was the one who had partially awakened the kid inside me. Do you remember your waterbottle post in which you had talked about finding an old waterbottle and drinking water from it? That was the one.
Thanks for the Limo. Would have taken you for a ride if it still had wheels. :P
@Perx: Yep, pretty much the same here. The McDonalds was an hour and a half away so we either used to go to it when we were going out of station and we went specially maybe once or twice. Now, one of the two McDonalds is just at walking distance from my house.
@Poonam: Toh kya hua if happy meal came when you were grown up. Abhi bhi you can go and buy one na, toys to sabki achche lagte hi hain lol. I dunno what they are giving these days.
And as far as my stats are concerned, 3 lakh mein se at least 2 lakh toh Atif Aslam ke liye hain and at least 80-90,000 Nach Baliye aur Jhalak Dikhlaja ke liye hain. So your 20,000 are better than mine anyway. Haathi ke daant dikhaane ke aur and khaane ke aur as they say. But thank you anyway. ;)
@Nids: Thanks. And thanks for the inspiration as well :D And yep, barbies, will wait to see them. I will ask my GI-Joe’s to go propose them. The GI-Joe’s won’t even reach your Barbie’s knees btw. :P
@Shuz: Ah yes, I remember kitchen sets. At the place where we used to live earlier, the landlords had a daughter and she was a couple of years older than me and we used to play together and she used to have a lot of kitchen sets. I remember we used to play chaai-chaai lol.
And the disney coin bank..is that the when where you put the button and a creature comes from inside the door and takes it inside? I have that too! :D
And I was never that crazy about GI-Joe’s. I never took them to bed with me at least.
@NightWriter: My mum gave away most of my toys too simply because there wasn’t much space to store them inside the house. And headless barbies would be really interesting if you ask me. Even my toys aren’t in the best of their shape lol.
@Sulz: Ah yes, I know the dalmatians sharpener is girly but there’s something I like about it, I don’t know what. I just do! :P
As far as the big boys toys are concerned, they are mostly gadgets. It would me my laptop, iPod, mobile phone, Discman and Camera. :P
@Rahul: Hey?
@Xylene: Ah yes, I used to have many hotwheels cars too. Kids came along and took them them away and I couldn’t stop them because it wasn’t my age to play with them anymore. I used to have a hotwheels car which was shaped like a dragon and had a rotating head. I really miss it now. :(
Ooh, nice post. :D
I used to be action-figure crazy when I was younger. Bough a GIJoe action figure, like every month. And the vehicles too! I um… still like GIJoe action figures, but only as collectibles, not toys. :/
Oh man, Skyscraper! I always wanted that one. I had every other major GIJoe vehicle, just not that one. And I don’t think they manufacture it anymore. T_T
The opening cockpit made me drool. :D I still have most of my GIJoes(50 or so). Two of them have broken arms but everything else is intact. I cried for days when my first GIjoe broke. Ah, Chuckles the spy. He was awesome. He doesn’t have a right hand now.
And you know what? GIJoes are totally awesome so I’m not gonna talk about the other toys and sully this comment. I’ll leave another comment in a bit. :P
he he reminds me of my set of toys.. i still have them in perfect condition.. a set of trains with tracks, couple of G I Joe stuff (forgot name of dudes)… One bright red fire truck (with bells n all), a blue gypsy (which goes forward if u pull it back) and a remote control monster truck.. all of them are in working condition except the remote control one! (sob sob).. Now my pint sized cousins play with them whenever they come home! (that too cos am not at home.. if I was there they wouldn’t get to touch it! :-D )
the barbies will kick their asses out. they hate tiny muscular gun-trotting men, they like only ken.
(noticed that rhymed??)
Pfft Barbies. *scoffs*
Ken is Barbie’s pretty little bitch. He’s gay as the Backstreet Boys.
GIJoes on the other hand, oh boy they are cool. They’ll blow Ken to pieces before he can say pink.
Gasp! A duck in a polar bear suit!
Titanic robot! I had a transformer too, got it long before I even heard of the cartoon series. Used to be the only one in my neighbourhood with one. I was a celebrity.
I never liked vehicle toys. They seemed… boring and pointless.
And the 101 Dalmatians sharpener is um.. *shifts nervously* um… nevermind.
Oh and I collected those He-Man figures too. :D And the animal you mentioned in your post is called Battle Cat. :P
At this time of nite,I am in a godown and checking ur blog.
well and i didnt read the post just browsed through it and tell u wht “its cute”.
lol.
Oh God…I don’t remember much of my toys…it was such a long time back. I remember having a bus and a few hot wheels cars. And I was mad about those handheld video games which my parents would never let me have. Finally I managed to have one after I cried and screamed on my birthday. :)
@Bharat: I know, even I used to collect a lot of GI-Joe’s, He-Man and Batman action figures when I was younger. Then I just outgrew them I guess. I don’t think I have any left now. Kids come and take away whatever they like and you can’t even refuse them because your Mummy says – Chodd tune kya karna hai ab, de de bachche ko.
I had a couple of other GI-Joe vehicles too. One was that Green Jeep thing and one was a Cobra boat. I had two Skystrikers at one point. One, which I had bought myself and one which I exchanged with a friend for a mouser gun. I had gotten that mouser gun as a return gift on a birthday lol. I still wonder why my friend exchanged it.
I never had many GI-Joe figures. They were just enough to fit into the vehicles i.e. two in the plane and two in the jeep. And I remember how I used to do GI-Joe vs Cobra fights, it was fun. My favorite GI-Joe was that archer guy in the white suit..I don’t remember the name. I don’t even think he was a GI-Joe, most probably he was a Cobra. I think I also had Luke.
@Balu: Oh, I know! Even I’m very possessive about my toys. I don’t let kids touch them. But now there aren’t any left. And moreover, the kids also go for the computer these days..the ease with which they can use it surprises me. And I had always wanted a Monster Truck, you know. I never got it. I never really got any decent remote control thing. I did have a couple of those sound controlled BMW’s. My mum did bring me a Mercedes SLR when I was 15 lol..she did that so I could stop blackmailing her that she never bought me what I wanted. Used to eat a lot of battery, sadly. Is broken now too, doesn’t have all the wheels.
@Nids: Haha, yeah, I noticed the rhyme. It was nice..now you can go right a poem on GI-Joe’s vs Barbie :P
@Bharat Again: LOL, you are touchy about GI-Joe’s alright.
@Bharat Yet Again (this is starting to sound like the Dhoom series now): Haha, nice gasp! Loved that.
When I bought that, even I wasn’t into transformers. That one isn’t actually an authentic transformer anyway. It’s just some random figure. Another thing I was into were Batman figures. My friend had one which could throw a sling somewhere and then slide on it. It was really nice. I bought one which has these huge wings. Toys wise I was never the badshah of my mohalla. All the other guys were richer than me. Moreover, I was also dumb. I remember being fooled so many times. There’s this guy who used to come at our landlords’ house sometimes. Whenever he’d come, we would exchange toys and I would give him like 4 to 5 of my things for one miniature truck which he got free with a chocolate. I remember the meetings we had and how far we used to go on cycles to exchange things.
Vehicle toys can be fun sometimes. I used this along with the Skystriker. Putting GI-Joe’s into it was tough but where there is a will, there is a way.
And I know liking the sharpener is gay, nevermind. :/
Yep, Battle Cat, that’s the one. I’ve forgotten all the names. But I used to have almost all the guys..Skelator, He-Man, Ram-man and the others. I never had a Tila(?) character, I wonder why.
@Jay Bhaiya: OMG OMG, do you still read this place or did you just emerge from somewhere? Where have you been? And how’s everybody else? Ever talk to them?
@Amit: Ah yes yes, handheld video games! I used to have some of them too. The most common was the one which had some 100 games in them right? I had two of those I think. I also had a Nintendo Gameboy but it had only one game. It was something related with saving people from fire. I’ve cried a lot on birthday’s to force the folks to buy me things. Now that I think about it, I used to buy a lot of toys. Something every month almost!
@ Ish
Oh ya battery that was a fight!
Sahi hai! Even I don’t have a limo :P And most of your toys seem to be having double functionality, huh? Btw, that McD thing looks really lame. Poor parents. Why would you want to buy a McD today? Like seriously! I wouldn’t take it even they’d given it to me for free… LOL. Okay sorry sorry…don’t get pissed off now.
Your sharpener reminds me of mine, that’s in the shape of a nice house with chimney and all. The chimney is used as a pencil stand. It also had a small piggie bank for coins. :)
Sorry haven’t been commenting at all. Your other post scared me because it’s too big and I don’t have the time to read it. :( I’ll do it if I’m highly bored. :P Baaki don’t get angry.
@bharat–ok, weirdo-kid-in-a-pajama-suit-dirtier-than-greyback’s-puke.
a)i was not talking to you. duh.
b)i wouldn’t even wanna talk to a juvenile delinquent like you. duh.
c)GIJoes might be as manly as Michael Jackson-without-his-nose, but at the end of the day, they’re DOLLS. like it or not.
d)its ok for a GIRL to play with dolls, Barbie or otherwise, but for a boy….how many times have you let a girl play gulli cricket with you???
e)i think gijoes are stupid, and you may scoff at barbies all you want.
f)i don’t think barbies are cool anymore, mostly because I’ve grown up.
g)MAYBE you haven’t grown up.
h)so next time, don’t say something to someone when, in the first place, you don’t even know what the someone was talking about, and to whom.
i)otherwise just bitch yourself off.
Peace.
@ish–thank you
Yup, the 100 games one. I had that, and boy did I played that game. I used to sleep with it under my pillow. Then afterwards I got a prehistoric computer and I was introduced to wolfenstien(The older version), and I completely forgot the video game. :|
There was this videogame my cousin had….in which you have to make a monkey climb to the other side of the jungle and he should not fall in the stream of water. I was so jealous of him and used to ask my father that why can’t I have such a game. God!!! It was so stupid. :)
W00t.
Will do.
Someday.
Sometime after the Boards.
Nice, BTW.
@ish: my mum through my toys away just to be evil. :) all i have left are some stuffed animals and curious george dolls. soon as a replace my stollen camera i’ll take some pics and post.
the duck in a polar bear really surprised me!
my toys weren’t so cool. my top fave toy is a panda, which i had ever since i was five months old. i always wanted to have a doll’s house – but never got one. :(
looks like i’m a pretty normal person toy-wise!
@Balu: I know. I had a friend who had a car which could be charged with electricity. Apparently it was an imported thing. He was precisely my friend because of that car. Otherwise he was jerkiness redefined. :P
@Ruhi: Ah, those were chotte hote ki baatein yaar. Now I won’t take a happy meal even if it was offered for free either. And I’m not a McDonalds person anymore, I’m sick of all their burgers. I’m a KFC person now..yet to get sick of their cheapest burger. :P
And don’t worry, I won’t get pissed with you. With anyone else maybe but with you, I can’t get angry. And I know my last post scared quite a few people. That’s why I quickly covered it up with this one. Otherwise I don’t make posts on consecutive days. :P
@Nids: You’re welcome. *shuffles nervously*.
@Amit: Yeah, I’ve played a lot of tetris and stuff on that one. But I never took it to bed. I never took anything to bed in my life actually. I’ve been jealous of so many people over such small things that I can’t even remember anymore. It’s human nature..jo hai usme santusht nahi reh sakte hum kabhi bhi. And I’ve never been good at computer games. As my friend puts it, I don’t have the zeal inside me to win a game/end a game. I play it for fun and there’s no passion. Hence, I always lose. :P
@Espera: Right.
Yeah do it.
Someday.
After the boards.
Thank You, Btw.
:P
@NightWriter: She gave away your toys to be evil? Wow, that’s some mom. I don’t have many stuffed animals for some reason..maybe I was never into them. And I never used to break toys so you could get me new ones. I would keep collecting them. I remember how once my kindergarten school’s principal came to my house and I showed her my entire toy collection. I was so fucking proud that day.
@Sanjida: The duck in the polar bear is cool? I thought I was the only one who found it cool. Others thought it was super-lame.
Nidhi: I don’t know what your problem is but I’m not going to turn Ish’s blog into a warzone. You have a problem with me? Come after me on my blog. I’ll be glad to oblige.
And just for the record, that comment was not meant to be taken seriously.
Aww… adorable! lol.
My favourite is the Titanic cum fighting robot.
:-D
I remember only one toy from “the old days”- a stuffed toy. And no, it wasnt a Teddy Bear or anything a normal kid would have, it was a cow. hehe.
Hahahaha I love the post! And the multi-angle shots of the toys :D
I like the Titanic! Something that reminds me of Transformers. You always have this longing of having a tool that looks cute and simple from the outside, and is a cool gadget from the inside, something that James Bond or Alex Rider would have. A perfect toy.
@Bharat: I’m not supposed to reply to that am I?
@Nik: Wow, you were one person who I expected would say this post was really childish. And you say adorable?! :P
Unconventional stuffed toys are fun. I used to have a dog and a duck. It wasn’t exactly a duck..it was one of those birds who hunt fish. It was more of a puppet.
@Sporadic: Thank You, thank you! Finally somebody noted my flair for photography! :D
@Apoorv: In three lines you’ve pretty much summed up why I was into Transformers. It’s the surprise element on the faces of people when you show off your toys and see them getting jealous. It’s priceless! And thanks for visiting. :)
@ish: lol I don’t boys get into stuff animals as much as girls do.
Lmao..
Didn’t want to kill the child in you, it’s the only part of you with some sense. ;-)
A duck cum prey bird… hehe.
Beats my domestic cow.
@ightWriter: I know. Boys are more into cars, guns and action figures. And sports equipment too.
@Nik: Yeah, now that’s better. More like you. :P
And it’s not a duck cum prey bird. It is a duck that is a prey bird. The kind which has a container like beak and takes a lot of water in hoping it’ll catch a couple of fishes that way. I can’t remember the name somehow. But yep, beats your cow unless it can gave milk. :P
It’s called a pelican.
you did have great toy collection.. . :D
you managed to get “cute ” for this post too as usual :P from all the girls
actually i loved this post too…while reading the post i was thinking of my toys which are in no way near to urs..
Yes, your last post was way TOO long. Why didn’t you break it up into smaller posts? Or save some content for later posts. I’m sure most of us didn’t even read everything! :P
KFC..McD…they’re all the same (shakes head).
Strangely enough, I don’t remember any of the toys I had. I was always an outdoor kid, and the guava tree at my grandmum’s place comes closest to being my favourite toy. I’d make mud castles below it and jump on them from the tree pretending to be Godzilla. :| Scary, but fun. :D
Oh, and that duck is called Birdie the Early Bird, btw. Koi duck-shuck nahi hai yaar. Itna apmaan. :P
I had loads of those sharpeners, though. They were a birthday party pinata favourite, and I’d grab as many as I could. They were then taken to school, shown off, and exchanged for canteen treats. Ah well. Food is edible, sharpeners are not. :D
@Bharat: Yes, Pelican. No wait, I don’t think so. *does a Google search*. Yep, Pelican. What would I do without Google? :P
@Arvind: Yea, now that I look back, I did have quite an enviable collection. I was never satisfied though. It’s human nature to always keep wanting more and more.
And cute toh milna hi tha, I’m so cute after all. :P
And do a post about your toys too someday, if you have any of ‘em left.
@Ruhi: The thing was that it never struck me that it would get that long. I tried to break the tags into pages as in Page 1, 2 and 3 as links in the same post. You can do it with most themes but not mine, which absolutely sucks. I need a new theme, too bad the WP people aren’t bringing anymore. WP has been rather quiet lately, don’t you think?
And no, KFC and McD’s are not the same man. KFC ka sabse sasta burger costs you like 30 rs and McD’s costs you 20. Bahut farak hai, mere se poocho. :P
@Vasudha: You never had any Barbies? Even if you’re an outdoor person you can have them. The sadist ones can have lots of fun with Barbies. I’ve known guys who used to buy action figures just so they could slit their heads and throw them on the walls. Anger Management, as they say.
And jumping on mud castles pretending to be Godzilla is so Calvin. You sure you never had a Hobbes? Look at this – http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3271/ch860308nv4.gif
Birdie the Early Bird, right. She doesn’t exactly look prehistoric with all the headgear and clothes does she? Seems like somebody straight out of Duck-Tales :P
Clever, very clever! I’ve never exchanged anything for food. I had bought a new pencil box once..took it to school and broke it first day. I was very happy that day. :-j
